Unfortuantely, yesterday, the VPD came and evicted all the residents from this camp giving them no other option for housing. The residents were given a list of phone numbers for housing but none of them were open as the eviction began at the break of dawn at 6:00AM. Eventually when they called those numbers they did not have any space for any new residents.
The port authority had informed lawyers and concerned callers that the injuction would not be enforced immediately and that there would be a few officers on site, over a long period of time. They also promised they would have housing options and representatives to help the people, but all of this was untrue. No housing reps or advocates, how are people suppose to know here to go during a pandemic.
VPD came in suited up ready for a serious fight, meanwhile the camp has been nothing but peaceful. This aggressive energy was not necessary for the people at the Namegan’s Tent City.
