Last month we attended/documented the 29th Annual Feb 14th Women’s Memorial March in memory of all the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (and men). We were gifted with a beautiful sunny day. They began the march with a ceremony at Main and Hasting Street with traditional songs, drumming, speeches and of course a visit from a couple Eagles soaring over the city.

The elders and leaders of the march guided the massive crowd around the Downtown Eastside stopping at locations where missing women were last seen. At every stop, they took a moment to pray, smudge, and honor the women who have lost their lives. It was hard to witness the family members and friends suffer from their lost. However, their support and love for their elders, family, friends and lost souls was inspirational.

To this day, Indigenous women are still disproportionately victimized. If you want to hear from them, watch our video. If you think this isn’t still happening, think again!

The march took place on the unceded coast salish territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations
